Ireland’s whiskey legacy runs centuries deep, but Teeling Distillery has a special place in my heart—and not just because it's delicious. Though the current distillery opened in 2015, it’s actually a rebirth of the original Teeling, which dates back to 1782. The current crew revived the brand just a stone’s throw from the old site—225 years later—and that sense of history is woven into every drop they produce.

Why I Can’t Stop Smiling About Teeling

I’m a big fan of Teeling whiskies (hello, Small Batch, Single Grain, and Single Malt!). So when I saw I’d be in Dublin, booking a tour was the first thing I did. The distillery is right in the city center—super easy to walk to from anywhere. Pro tip: You can enjoy a tasting without worrying about driving home. 😉

The tasting tour is a highlight reel of Irish distilling history, with a modern twist. The guide walked us through how they’ve blended tradition and innovation: copper pot stills are brand new, but the underlying process respects the original distilling style.

Bottling Your Own Cask… and Carrying Pride Home

After the tour, you get whiskey in your glass, sure—but the real gem is the cask-filling room. Visitors can scoop their own sample from a cask on-site: I grabbed the very first bottle from the latest keg they’d opened. To this day, I look at that bottle and think, “I filled that myself”—and man, it still tastes like pride in a glass.
